Mylène Bru

SAINT PARGOIRE | Coteaux-du-Languedoc, france

expresses her terroir with verve

Mylène Bru makes natural garrigue wines in the Languedoc. She works biodynamically on a small 5 ha farm in the Mediterranean mountains of Saint-Pargoire on limestone parcels surrounded by oak trees and wild herbs. For several of her wines, Mylène has adopted the Vin de France designation so she is not bound to the traditional blends and styles found in the region. Most people don’t think of the Languedoc as a place for juicy, bright, precise wines; but Mylène Bru expresses her terroir with verve.

rare, refreshing acidity

Mylène practices crop covering and promotes biodiversity on the vineyards between the plants and animals on the farm, but also in the amount of varietals she plants: Chasselas, Marsanne, Grenache, Syrah, Carignan, Cinsault, Marselan, Tempranillo, Aubun, Muscat de Hambourg, Alphonse Lavallée and Servant. The northern Mediterranean winds and higher elevation counteract the hot and dry climate of the Languedoc, resulting in incredibly flavourful grapes with good levels of acidity, making concentrated wines in the glass, with refreshing acidity--a rarity in this part of France.

We first met Mylène and served her wines years ago while working at the Auberge du Chassignole du Chassignolles, we are honoured to represent her in Ontario. Though Mylène’s wines don’t receive much English language press, they are increasingly popular in cities around the world after being discovered and championed by French broadcaster and DJ, Gilles Peterson and now makes the wine for his music festival.
