burgundian precision meets beaujolais energy
Clos Sauvage is a family-run wine estate tucked into the hills above Leynes, reached by a steep country road lined with dry stone walls, chestnut forests, and open heathland. The estate sits at 400–450 metres altitude, overlooking the Saône Valley, on the border between southern Burgundy and Beaujolais. More precisely, Clos Sauvage lies in the Mâconnais, at the northern edge of Beaujolais, a transitional zone where Burgundian precision meets Beaujolais energy. This setting, shaped by granitic soils mixed with clay-limestone and cooled by elevation, gives the wines their natural freshness, tension, and mineral character.
terroir-driven wines with a human touch
At Clos Sauvage, vineyard and cellar work follow the same philosophy: careful observation balanced with intuition. Farming is organic, with no synthetic inputs, and vineyard practices are adapted vintage by vintage to respect the vine’s natural rhythms. Old, once-abandoned vines have been patiently reclaimed across four hectares, while new plantings are carefully introduced to express the individuality of each small plot and climat. The wines are unmistakably rooted in the typicity of the region, yet stand apart for their clarity, vitality, and sense of place.
why bbi chose clos sauvage
Bogie’s Best Imports was drawn to Clos Sauvage for their deeply peasant approach to farming and winemaking, where wine is one part of a broader, living ecosystem. Beyond the vines, the family works toward a balanced, self-sustaining farm that includes livestock, forests, and biodiversity projects. This commitment to land, patience, and authenticity aligns closely with Bogie’s values. Clos Sauvage produces wines that are honest, expressive, and meant to be shared, wines that quietly but confidently tell the story of their place and the people who care for it.
