COMPLÉMEN’TERRE

muscadet sèvre et maine | loire Valley, france

expressions of the unique volcanic terroir

Complémen’terre is a husband-wife team of Manuel Landron and Marion Pescheux producing single vineyard wines in Muscadet, where they were both born and raised. Manuel is the son of legendary Muscadet producer Jo Landron, of Domaine de Lalouvtrie. After working abroad in both New Zealand and Chile,  the couple returned home to the Loire to make wines in a more natural way. Their incredibly vibrant and unique Muscadets are certified organic and practicing biodynamic, using minimal or no sulfur before bottling. The wines of Complémen’terre  are expressions of the unique volcanic terroir of Muscadet, growing on gneiss, orthogneiss, granite, amphibolite, and sand.

Like many of our producers, respect for the planet and the soil comes first. In an interview, Manuel and Marion mention improving the polyculture in their vineyards to improve the biodiversity, therein farming more sustainably and regenerating the soil--capturing more carbon and helping fight climate change. These wines are grown and tended to by hand, producing low yields of impeccable quality.

like a more bracing version of chablis

Complémen’terre wines are aged on lees for longer than most Muscadets, giving the wines noticeably much more texture and vibrancy than you typically see in the region. Jon Bonné says this new wave of Muscadet, “is like a more bracing version of Burgundy—Chablis with more zest and a lower price tag.” These wines have been featured in Bonné’s The Insider’s Guide to Muscadet in Punch Drink. We are thrilled to offer such excellent and environmentally friendly Muscadet in Ontario.
